I was called out to a suite where they were having lots of problems the their dryer. The dryer was over heating and clothes were not drying. They had the ducts cleaned and this didn’t solve the problem. The ducts were clear but not venting very well. The duct cleaners recommended that the booster fan be replaced.
When I arrived, from a distance everything looked fine. Upon closer inspection the dryer booster fan was installed wrong. It was actually blowing in the wrong direction. It was blowing towards the dryer. This prevented all the dryer’s heat from exhausting, causing the over heating problem. It also prevented the moisture from leaving the dryer, causing the clothes to not dry.
Instead of replacing the booster fan, I was able to mount it in the proper direction. After thoroughly inspecting the fan for proper operation, every thing was now working as it should have when the building was constructed.
