Dryer Booster Fan Not Working

Dryer Booster Fan Not Working

Is your dryer booster fan not working? Do you need to repair it? Can you wait to repair it?

A booster fan is typically installed in concrete high rise buildings all around the Metro Vancouver area. The dryer ducts in these buildings are long, narrow and very restrictive. A dryer alone isn’t powerful enough to push out the water and lint. That’s where a booster fan comes in. It’s purpose it to help push the moisture and lint along. If the booster fan isn’t working then the water and lint are more likely to build up inside the dryer duct. These ducts in the concrete ceiling are not perfectly sealed and thus likely to leak if water builds up in them. First a small ceiling stain or crack will appear and then get bigger.

Bad Ceiling leak from the dryer duct

So yes, you do need to repair your dryer booster fan. It’s much cheaper to get a booster fan repaired and or your dryer duct cleaned; than it is to repair and repaint your ceiling. More about ceiling leaks can be found here.

Can you wait to repair your dryer booster fan? I don’t recommend waiting. If the booster fan stops working or starts making a noise, it’s best to stop using the dryer and call me. The reason is that I can often times easily repair a booster fan. Even one that is 20+ years old. If you wait to get your fan repaired then more damage will occur, resulting in the need to get the fan replaced. Costing about double a repair price.

I stock all parts and pieces to repair or replace any dryer booster fan. Only one visit is needed, and typically everything can be done in about 1 hour. So please call before things get worse.

I also recommend getting your dryer duct cleaned from a reputable company. One that specializes in concrete high rises. Not a window washing company or a company that blows air through the lint filter of your dryer. For the best dryer duct cleanings around visit Michael A. Smith Duct Cleaning.
