This old DBF110 dryer booster fan wasn’t working and had not been working for a very long time. I would have expected that the duct cleaning company would have been servicing it but that was not the case. The resident called the company that cleans their ducts and was quoted $1000 to replace it. This was without even looking at it. When the resident called me I told him that I was very familiar with his fan model. Most likely I would be able to repair it at. Even if it couldn’t be repaired, my cost to replace it would be significantly less than the previous quote of $1000.
When I arrived today, it was obvious that the fan had not been serviced in a long time, if ever. After a quick test, I was sure that I would be able to repair. I cleaned the fan up, tightened screws, replaced some parts and remounted it to the wall. That’s all the fan needed. This 15 year old fan was still in great shape and working like new.
The one thing I didn’t do here was clean the duct. I told the resident that if they’re having any problems then it’s duct related and they should get the ducts cleaned. I recommended calling masduct.com
